Version 2.4.0 - Massive Balance Changes
Version 2.4.0 addresses many balance concerns!
Hey everyone,
In this latest build I have made some big changes to some of the cards introduced in v2.2.3, and tried to adjust some of the existing mechanics based on feedback!
Clubs changed again
The club discard mechanic has been removed. I felt it was just too disruptive to the overall theme of building a cohesive deck, and so I have tried to implement a different approach based on feedback. Clubs now have the added effect of dealing "group damage", where they will deal damage to all enemies on the table. Only the targeted enemy will be given the weakness effect. This hopefully will offer a completely different strength to the clubs, as they provide a great benefit when facing multiple enemies!
New Bear Phase
A great suggestion given was to provide the Killer Bear boss with a unique attack phase. During the start of the level, the bear is hibernating. While hibernating, it will not attack the player, but will slowly increase in damage. This phase can be interrupted if the player deals damage to the Bear's health.
Changes:
- Clubs no longer discard other weapons in your hand
- Clubs will now damage all enemies on the table
- Card Forge changed to draw a card once per round when any card is discarded, and gives the player a bonus move
- Training Course: Now gives summons +2 damage increased from +1
- Fuzzy Armour: Now heals player for double their equipped armour
- Ethereal Deck: Places random cards in deck without discarding deck
- Royal Flush: Heals player for double the cards in their hand
- Third Hand: Resets the move counter back to 3 instead of adding 2 moves
- Coiled Whip: Changed to 50% chance of 20 damage, or 1 damage and 2 to the player
- Healthcare card has been changed to now accept a coin to give the Healthcare structure +5 health
- Spiked Dart made cheaper
- Temporary Card description added to UI popup
- Killer Bear now has a hibernation phase, where it will gain 2 damage per turn and will not attack the player. This phase will end when the damage is greater than 4, or the Bear's health is reduced
- Improved resolution of fonts on cards to help readability
- Stopped the escape button from closing the game in the pause menu
- Escape now closes the viewing card without opening the pause menu
- Text for wooden boomerang and various other cards fixed
- Added "Needs a Bow" to the wonky arrow to help teach new players
- Bug Fix: Stopped screen remaining black when a viewed card is killed

I think the whole discard synergy was interesting, especially with martyr's blade, card forge, and card launcher/royal flush. Maybe a niche for it will appear in the future!
It's definitely something I want to still look at - potentially not with a whole weapon type, but by implementing more specific discard cards like the martyrs blade 😊 I'm also always open to any ideas!
